End of Year Review for the New Year

iphone on notebook

It was quiet around the holidays and such a good time to reflect on the year’s activities and plan for the next.  One of my favorite things that I do is to review my calendar.  I write down all of the places I have traveled to and count the new places I’ve been.  I typically set a goal of 5 new places.  It keeps me excited to explore new things.

Additionally, I list out my friends and record how many times I connected with them throughout the year.  Every time I do this, I am surprised at one or two friends that I have seen more than I thought.  I am also surprised that I hadn’t seen some friends as much as I expected.

It helps me to adjust my time commitments in the upcoming year.  As I reflect on the events I attended, I think about how energized or depleted I felt afterwards.  This is important considering we are all very busy and should spend our time wisely.  I do not like participating in boring activities with people that drain my positivity, but  I love spending time laughing, learning, and doing good with people that make me better.

I quickly review the upcoming calendar and review my commitments.  If it allows, I reach out to those friends that I would want to share the experience with and invite them to join me.  It gives enough time for everyone to plan, and if they say yes, then it’s something I look more forward to doing.

Finally, this upcoming year I am committing to a digital diet.  I am going to take one day a month to work on my personal goals and not be distracted by technology.  I am going to unplug and not be accessible so work on my personal development and self-care.  I think this will initially be difficult, but as some of my friends who currently do this, it will be life changing.  I’m so excited for this.
